Welcome to our House!
After a wonderful day at the beach, how
about retreating to a beautiful sunset over the sound to top the day off?
P·u·r·r·rfect
can't be beat for its combination of vistas of the sound, nearby access to the
ocean, and amenities offered in the home. At each step along the way in
making P·u·r·r·rfect a reality, from selecting our lot, to building the
home, and through outfitting and furnishing P·u·r·r·rfect, we knew we wanted
to build a home that provided a memorable experience. We believe we have
done so - and hope you'll stay in our home and share that experience.
Take a look at "Keeping Our House the Best" at the bottom of this page to see the updates and improvements we've made to the house.
We've provided an overview of what our home
offers below. We've included a few pictures of the
house on this page to try and give you an idea of what the house looks like. To view
additional interior and exterior photos of the house, click

We certainly believe our past guests are the best judges of the experience of staying at our home. To see a sampling of the comments we've received in our Guest Book, click

Inside:
Its a long week. There will be times when everyone's together having a
great time, times when the adults need a short break from the kids, and
(hopefully not) maybe even times when the weather is a little blah. For
the p·u·r·r·rfect vacation, you'll need a home that can meet all of your
needs. P·u·r·r·rfect is the home that can do that!
With over 3050 square feet of
living space, P·u·r·r·rfect (new in 2000) has room for a large crowd
without cramping everyone together. Our house offers three major
entertainment areas - the Great Room, a very large sitting room, and a Rec
Room on the lower floor, each equipped with high definition TV, cable, and a VCR, DVD player, or both. Enough room for everyone and everyone's choice of
activities. And when the family meets to eat, there's plenty of
room for all. Our dining room table seats 10 with room for 3 more at the
breakfast bar.
You'll find our home's amenities
striking. From Dakota Mahogany granite countertops and Hickory cabinets
in the kitchen, the the colorful and delightful tile in the cabana bath, we've
tried to add color and sparkle that makes P·u·r·r·rfect more than your
traditional vacation home. Every floor has extensive tile.
Bedrooms are painted and outfitted in lively colors.
Each of the four bedrooms on the middle
floor offer cable TV and DVD and ensuite bathroom (two with
whirlpool tubs), while the kid's room on the lower floor shares the cabana
bath. The bedrooms include two with kings, one with a queen, and one
with twin beds, and one with pyramid bunk beds. For extra guests,
there's a sleeper sofa in the Rec Room.
You'll find a large selection of games,
pool equipment, movies (VHS and DVD provided), a large assortment of books,
and odds-and-ends for your enjoyment. There's an air hockey table in the
Rec Room (which is almost impossible to hear upstairs in the Great Room, Mom
and Dad!), and a basketball hoop in the driveway.
We provide a fully equipped laundry
room for the inevitable load of laundry that needs to be done, and you'll find
an extra large capacity dishwasher in the kitchen to help with clean-up from
meals.

Outside: Burgers on the
grill, a cold drink in your hand, and a comfortable deck chair. What
more could you ask for? How about 1800 square feet of deck, including
access to the deck from every bedroom, ocean horizon views, and expansive
views of the close-by sound? And while the burgers are cooking, take
time for a swim in our 13x26 swimming pool, lounge in our large hot tub, or
shoot some hoops in the driveway. Or just relax in a pool-side
chair. Maybe best of all, steal a little time away with a book in the
large gazebo that looks out over the sound.

Odds and Ends:
The large Great Room has a gas
fireplace, warm decor, and a window sitting area that emphasizes the
great sound views. The Kitchen includes a breakfast island with seating
and granite countertops all around. The Dining Room and Kitchen
showcase beautiful tile floors that compliment the decor. The Sitting Room includes a computer with color printer and unlimited
Internet access. The Rec Room has a
kitchenette with sink, full-size refrigerator, microwave, an entertainment
center, and a full-size air hockey table.
Our goal is for you to enjoy your stay in our home, and
we are working hard to make
sure that happens. Think of us for family reunions,
traveling with friends, or just for a family getaway. We're proud of our home, and think you and
your family would enjoy it as much as we do.
Keeping Our House the Best!
As P·u·r·r·rfect's owners, we believe in treating our OBX house as our home and want you to be able to enjoy P·u·r·r·rfect the same way. We are constantly updating the home features, as well as addressing our renter's concerns and suggestions. Below is a list of upgrades we've made to the property in the last several years.
Spring 2012 - We have added the Kilmaric Golf Club K Club to our amenities at no cost to our guests. This program offers anyone staying at our house discounted golf at the Kilmarlic Golf Course, as well as access to the clubhouse and other amenities at the facility. Southern Shores will include the appropriate information in your rental package when you check in.Winter 2011 - We replaced all sliding door blinds. Upstairs, the blinds limit but don't block the light. In the bedrooms, the blinds are designed to block light - for those of us who are late sleepers while on vacation!Spring 2011 - Paint on decks fades quickly in an environment like the OBX. To address the fading, we have re-painted the deck and white exterior areas.Winter 2010/2011 - For the 2011 rental season: (1) Bedrooms with standard TVs have HDTVs and HD service. (2) The two bedrooms on the middle floor now have ceiling fans, meaning 4 of the 5 bedrooms will now have ceiling fans. The remaining bedroom is on the lower level and always remains cool. (3) New, larger ceiling fans have been installed in the Great Room and Sitting Room. (4) In response to a renter comment about trees encroaching on our sound views, we had the trees trimmed on our lot and on the empty lot below us, which we also own with two of our neighbors. This has restored almost all of the original views that had been partially blocked by trees over the years. (5) Improved Internet service. Winter 2009/2010 - We replaced the original electric stove with traditional burners that were always troublesome (breaking, sticking up) with a brand new, top-of-the-line flattop stove that includes double burners, a warming area, and several other features that make it a significant improvement.
Fall 2009 - A renter noted that the Rec Room sleeper sofa had a bent frame. While we were unable to fix it in time for the renter, we've had the entire frame replaced so that the sofa is fully functional again.
Fall 2009 - We were unhappy with the speed of the internet connection we offer our renters. To fix this, we worked with our Internet provider to install a special repeater on our home that has greatly improved the speed of our connection.
Summer 2009 - A renter complained that our house had cat smells and cat hair. In response to this complaint, Southern Shores asked their supervisors and cleaning crews, who come in on the Sunday changeover, if they had noticed any such issues and they had not. Additionally, we and Southern Shores both visited the house and could find no evidence of cats or any other animals. Rather than stop there, we asked Southern Shores to contact renters before and after the week in question and Southern Shores was unable to find anyone who had experienced any cat smell or concerns. We have never had pets in our house and Southern Shores supervisors visit every house between renters to ensure that no pets have been in the house.
Spring 2009 - Added two new large Flat Screen TVs with High Definition cable receivers, one in the Great Room and one in the Rec Room, for a total of 3.
Spring 2009 - Replaced all of our pool furniture with top-quality Telescope ourdoor furniture, as well as a new resin table.
Spring 2009 - In the ten years we've had the home, only once has the pool had any issues despite the heavy use it sees. Despite having an adequate filter system, we don't want even one renter to be inconvenienced. To ensure that, we replumbed and upgraded our filter system to a large sand filter that far exceeds the capacity normally required for a pool our size to ensure that even with the largest crowds, our pool performs.
Spring 2009/Spring 2010 - Upgraded all of our outdoor eucalyptus deck furniture with white resin furniture, including adirondack chairs, rockers, two-seat benches, and tables.
Spring 2008 - Installed a new Nags Head Hammocks 2-person resin swing to replace two Nags Head Hammocks wooden chairs.
Spring 2008 - Installed a large flat screen TV with High Definition cable receiver in the sitting room.
Spring 2007 - Replaced a plain white painted backsplash over the granite countertops in the kitchen with a brown glass tile backsplash that really brings out the granite countertop and maple cabinets.
Spring 2007 - Re-painted the entire interior. White walls were updated to a nice beige color while bedrooms and restrooms were all painted bright, "beach" colors. Furnishings and accents in the newly painted rooms were updated to match the new color scheme.
Spring 2007 - Painted the deck railings and slats in white paint to add some pizazz to the deck area when compared to the previous plain wood finish.
